UTILITIES
Calhoun County is well served by progressive, development-oriented natural gas and electric utility companies. Mid-American Energy is a leader in economic development in Iowa. The Calhoun County Rural Electric Cooperative serves most of the rural areas of Calhoun County and provices power for the City of Farnhamville. The REC along with Corn Belt Power Cooperative and as a member of the Iowa Area Development Group has the resources and incentive for industrial development in Calhoun County.

Check out Iowa's utility rates, which are among the lowest in the Nation. According to the American Gas Association, Iowa's average of $2.71 per MMBtu is well below the national industrial average of $3.19. According to the Energy Information Administration, Iowa's average cost per kilowatt hour is 4.0 cents for industry as compared to the national average of 4.7 cents.


TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Telecommunications provides the vital link for businesses to the rest of the world. Through Iowa Telecom and the Web-Cal Telephone Cooperative, Calhoun County is served by state-of-the-art digital switching and hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable.


WATER AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT
Iowa is served by an aquifer system that provides an ample supply of water to its citizens. Even during periods of low rainfall, unlike other states, Iowa does not suffer from inadequate water supplies.

Iowa has been aggressive in meeting EPA and Iowa Department of Natural Resources requirements for water and wastewater treatment. Most Calhoun County cities have completed recent improvements and have more planned for the future. Several cities also have existing capacity for storage and treatment of water for further industrial expansion.
