It has been over 60 years since the founders of McFarland Clinic PC decided to embark on a new venture. In January 1946, they began one of Iowa's first multi-specialty clinics. G.E. McFarland, Sr, M.D., a general practitioner; his two sons, G.E. McFarland, Jr. M.D., a general surgeon; and J.E. McFarland, M.D., an internist; along with O.L. Thorburn, M.D., an ear, nose and throat specialist; and David Wall Sr., M.D., an obstetrician, were McFarland Clinic's first partners. The McFarland Clinic PC Main Building is located at 1215 Duff Avenue in Ames, Iowa. These five physicians believed that a multi-specialty group practice offered the best means of providing quality medical care. That remains the philosophy at McFarland Clinic PC today. Today, McFarland Clinic PC is central Iowa's largest physician-owned multi-specialty clinic. The McFarland Clinic PC network of health care providers serves residents in 12 Iowa communities with an additional 12 communities served by physician outreach clinics. Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge is 25 minutes away. The famed Wolfe Eye Clinic of Marshalltown has a satellite in Fort Dodge. There are dental, chiropractic and optometric practices in town. The city operates an ambulance service with trained EMT crews. Support services include homemaker-health aides, meals-on-wheels, congregate meals, independent retirement living, round-the-clock nursing care, hospice, delivery of library materials, mental health support group, AA and Al-Anon.
