The 15,000-volume Carnegie Public Library is open six days a week. It has computers for public use and circulates an extensive collection of videotapes and books on tape. There is a public meeting room, as well.
The public school fine-arts program presents concerts, stage productions and art exhibits which are open to the public. The community theater produces a headline performance during the county fair. Annual events in Calhoun County include ``A Walk Around the Lake," an IPRA-sanctioned rodeo, Meridian Singers productions, Village Square Theater, Old Settlers' Day and Summer Fest.
Regional artists are invited to perform at a variety of sites, including the 400-seat acoustically designed high school auditorium. Major concerts, plays and museums are within a reasonable driving distance.
Due to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, the Calhoun County Historical Museum in Rockwell City features outstanding exhibits of local history. The expansive facility is especially know for its focus on the county's agricultural heritage, which includes a large collection of horse-drawn machinery. |
